The social network said Friday it paid a record $1 billion in advertising costs in 2017.
The social media giant said the total figure is for the last fiscal year, and that it has paid about $8.9 million in the past six months to Facebook advertisers.
Facebook paid $1,021,000 in advertising in 2016, $1 million in 2017 and $1-2 million in 2018, the company said.
Facebook said it spent $1-$1.5 billion in the first six months of 2019.
In 2017, Facebook spent $3.4 billion, the second-highest amount of any U.S. company behind Amazon.
Facebook, Facebook said, will spend more than $2 billion in 2018.
It said it is also working with its partner, Microsoft, on a range of initiatives, including the “Project Spartan” initiative, to help advertisers reach users in the U.K. and Canada.
