FOX Sports is reporting that Disney has reportedly made an acquisition bid for nearly all of the major ad networks, including ESPN, NBC, CBS and ABC.
Fox Sports is telling us that Disney is the largest buyer of television networks, as well as ad platforms in the 2020 election cycle, with a total of $8 billion.
The acquisition, which is expected to close sometime in 2018, will allow Disney to control “the majority of the television and digital media ecosystem in the United States,” according to the report.
As part of its overall push to become a “media and content powerhouse,” Disney is expected the company to continue to invest in the ad space.
It will reportedly spend an additional $2.5 billion over the next 10 years on ad acquisitions, according to Fox Sports.
Fox reported last week that it expects to reach $18.7 billion in ad revenue for 2020.
The news comes after reports that Disney and NBCUniversal had reached a deal to acquire NBCUniversal’s rights to broadcast sports programming.
In addition to ESPN, Fox reported that Disney also is looking to buy out NBCUniversal.
