Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-31 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday.
Browns rookie running back Jeremy Hill added 102 yards on 18 carries and two interceptions.
The Browns (4-6) were without starting defensive tackle Myles Garrett and quarterback Johnny Football.
The game was postponed for the first time in Browns history after a series of lightning strikes and a firestorm of controversy.
The team’s website said Sunday that the game will be rescheduled for the Thursday night start at 4 p.m.
ET on ESPN and NFL Network.
The postponement is the latest in a series.
Browns coach Mike Pettine said after Sunday’s game that he was not concerned about the postponement.
“It’s a big blow to the organization.
It’s a huge blow to our organization.
We’re going to have to figure out how to keep going through this process,” he said.
Manziel’s touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Terrance Williams with 2:02 remaining put the Browns up 23-0 at halftime.
“I just wanted to go out there and get the ball and get our first touchdown,” Manziel said.
“We knew they were going to try to run us out of the game, so I just went out there, hit them with a beautiful pass.
I just wanted the ball to go in and it didn’t.
I got to go back and make sure it was in the air and hit the ground running.”
The Browns were led by quarterback Brian Hoyer, who completed 17 of 26 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown.
Hoyer was benched for the second straight game for the fourth time in six games.
“The whole game, you can tell it’s hard to play in this league.
You’re trying to do everything you can to play as good a game as you can,” Hoyer said.
Hill’s two interceptions in the first quarter put the Jaguars up 20-0.
He completed 17-of-27 passes for 201 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the second quarter.
The Jaguars scored again on their final offensive play when Hill, who had six catches for 83 yards, broke away on a fade route to give the Browns a 10-7 lead.
“A great game for both teams,” Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said.
The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the Browns.
“That was our first loss in three weeks,” Pettine added.
“Obviously, the last three weeks we’ve been playing better football.
It was a tough loss.”
Hill has been suspended for the next three games.
He also was benned for the game in November after a confrontation with a referee.
The decision led to criticism of the NFL’s discipline for referees, who typically do not face discipline from the league office.
In his first three games, Manziel had thrown three interceptions and was sacked five times.
“He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league,” Browns defensive end Joey Bosa said.
A third-round draft pick by the Jacksonville Titans in 2015, Hoyer has made only three starts for the Jaguars, who have lost four of five.
“Johnny’s done a great job.
He’s a young quarterback, he’s got a chance to do something big,” Jaguars defensive tackle Malik Jackson said.
Bosa had a sack and a pass defensed in the Browns’ loss.
The Bills have lost five of seven.
The Titans, who are coming off a bye, are 1-5.
The Bengals are 2-4.
The Bears are 0-6.
